About CORDA

During its history of more than 30 years, Corda has paid the salaries of many doctors and research staff, and funded research studies in hospitals throughout the United Kingdom. This research has substantially improved the understanding of the way that cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes develop.

CORDA funded the world's first cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) scanner at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. The first CMR.

This allowed the hospital to develop a new branch of medicine CMR - and pioneer major advances in the understanding of heart disease. CMR is now used worldwide and the Royal Brompton unit, supported by CORDA, is recognised as one of the major centres in the world.

Most of the work sponsored has been dedicated to the creation and onward support of the Magnetic Resonance Unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

Sponsorship of specific research at Great Ormond Street also showed recognition of this important work in developing a unique way of detecting the very earliest stages of cardiovascular disease in young children.
