About CORDA

CORDA is a registered charity that raises funds to support high quality clinical research into the prevention of heart disease and stroke. Heart disease is a major cause of death in the UK. We have sponsored vital research at several leading institutions in the UK and have particularly close links with Royal Brompton Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The research we fund has concentrated on using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging to give early diagnosis of coronary heart disease. CMR is also being used to study arteries elsewhere in the body to help identify patients at risk, including adolescents and young people. You can read about the research sponsored by CORDA in the How we help section.

Our people

CORDA is managed and run by a dedicated team of patrons, presidents, chairmen and trustees. Our success is also due to those who work tirelessly on research projects.

Our history

CORDA was founded in February 1976 by cardiac surgeon Donald Longmore and computer development pioneer John Stephenson to fund Longmore's pioneering work and other similar research projects into the prevention of heart disease.
