Taking part in an event or setting yourself a challenge is a great way of supporting CORDA and enjoying yourself at the same time. And this isn't just for individuals: organisations can set up events to raise money for CORDA or enter teams into local and national events.
A fundraising event can be as challenging or fun as you want. Some people like to set themselves a sporting challenge, such as running a marathon. But you can also raise money for CORDA by hosting a fun event such as a coffee morning, tea party, disco or garage sale.
In her 16th marathon, Christina Small raised around £2000 for CORDA in the London Marathon in 2008.
In July 2008 Ben Stiff skateboarded from John O'Groats to Lands End to raise awareness and funds for CORDA.
In October 2008 Rebecca Smith trekked the Great Wall of China.
Every year Rydon Construction holds a Go Karting Challenge in aid of CORDA with teams made up of staff and representatives from invited organisations. As they battle to win the Roger Horton Memorial Trophy, named in honour of Rydon's former managing director who died of a heart attack, they also raise valuable funds for us.
CORDA does not organise fund-raising events itself. However, if you want to name CORDA as your chosen charity for a particular event, please contact us to let us know.
Once you have decided how you are going to raise money for CORDA, one of the easiest ways to collect it is by setting up a sponsorship page on JustGiving with CORDA as your chosen charity. Then send a link to this page to everyone who you want to ask to sponsor you.
Alternatively, you can print out one of our sponsorship forms and ask people to fill that in. This is particularly important if they are a taxpayer so that we can claim Gift Aid on their donations.
If you are hosting an event where you are raising funds, such as a coffee morning, then remember that you can raise extra funds through Gift Aid by asking your guests to sign a sponsorship form and tick the Gift Aid box if they are a taxpayer. Then send us the form along with a cheque made payable to 'CORDA' for any funds not raised online to:
