CORDA's research into preventing heart disease and stroke relies heavily on legacy gifts, which make up an important part of our income. The research into heart disease and stroke that we support using your legacy may one day help your children and grandchildren.
If you have already left a legacy to CORDA in your Will, thank you so much.
There are two ways to leave a legacy. You can leave a 'pecuniary gift', which is a fixed amount of money, or a 'residuary gift', which is a specific proportion of what is left in your estate after you have provided for your family and loved ones. You can also leave a 'specific legacy' which is a named item such as a possession (for example jewellery or an antique), land, buildings or specified investments, such as shares.
Any gift is valuable to us, but remember that the effects of inflation may mean that the actual value of a fixed or pecuniary gift could become less than you intended unless you review your Will regularly.
If you already have a Will but would now like to leave a legacy to CORDA, you can do this by making a simple addition, called a 'codicil'. You can do this by including new instructions and taking out old ones without having to revoke the whole will. We suggest that you seek professional legal advice when changing your will.
If you have not already made a Will you may need to consult a solicitor. Although the solicitor will charge you a fee, you will receive professional advice and be sure your wishes are achieved.
If you do plan to make a donation through your Will we would really appreciate it if you could let us know, as it helps us plan for the future with greater confidence. It also means that we can thank you again for your wonderful support and let you have any additional information or help you might need.
